Course Overview

The ALSO Part 1: PIMS ( Preparation in Maternity Safety) course for those in the early stages of their obstetric or midwifery career, or those seeking a refresher.

Who Should Attend?

• Junior House Officers or Resident Medical Officers wanting to do obstetrics

• RFDS nurse or paramedic
• Nurses considering doing midwifery
• Registered practitioners seeking to refresh their knowledge and skills.

The course covers the key concepts of safety and teamwork in maternity care. Workshops include sessions on antenatal care and creating the birth space and normal birth, management of the 3rd and 4th stage of labour, neonatal resuscitation and emergencies in labour. Lectures are on topics including perinatal psycho-social health, collaborative care of the clinically deteriorating woman, obstetric and medical complications in pregnancy.

PIMS is accredited with RANZCOG and eligible fellows of this college can claim points for attendance as follows:
CPD Online Program (Clinical Expertise Domain):
Full attendance – 16 PD points
Day 1 – 9 PD points
Day 2 – 7 PD points

PIMS Course Fees in Australian Dollars:
Course fee $1,450.00 per participant. This includes:
• Two days of training
• The PIMS online study notes (hard copy not available)
• Lunch on both days, morning and afternoon tea
