Birthing a Breech Education or BABE is a one day multidisciplinary course aimed at maternity care providers looking for more specific information on the options for women with a breech presentation late in pregnancy. It is unique in its inclusion of consumers, not only in the development of the course but also in the manual and lectures.
It is generally accepted that clinician confidence and competence to manage vaginal breech birth safely, has decreased considerably over the past two decades, and opportunities for experience and learning in the clinical setting is extremely limited due to dramatically reduced staff exposure and familiarity with breech delivery techniques. What is a certainty, is that vaginal breech births will still occur, with some women diagnosed in established labour, or arriving at a health service with a previously undiagnosed breech presentation.
The course includes lectures and workstations facilitated by experienced obstetric and midwifery clinicians, enabling participants to have hands on practice using the wonderful mannequin Sophie and her Mum (from Model Med https://modelmed.com.au/).
