Instructor of the Year Award 2017

The Moyra Lewis Instructor of the Year pays tribute to our beloved Moyra who died in May 2014. Moyra was an integral member of ALSO family since 2001, as an instructor, Board member, Advisory Faculty, part of the team who set up BABE and a huge enthusiast for midwifery, ALSO, BABE and education broadly. Moyra was also great fun and loved a good glass (or two) of bubbles at an ALSO dinner. Even 5 weeks before she died, she was Advisory Faculty at the Sydney ALSO course and had a great time singing and dancing at the ALSO dinner with instructors and her daughter Indie. Moyra is very much missed by us all. This annual Award recognises Moyra’s immense contribution to ALSO and BABE.

“Kate has a supremely positive outlook on everything she does. She maintains a unique blend of warmth and professionalism. She engages with the participants during the sessions and on breaks and is a delight to work with and be around.”

“She has a unique way of lighting up an audience when she delivers any education. Nothing is ‘dry’ when taught by Kate, she makes it all sound interesting and dynamic. She is respectful at all times when communicating with an audience and presents a united message and professional front. Kate can always be relied upon to counsel and mentor participants who are ‘struggling’. She is a collaborator and great communicator.”

“Kate has been an ALSO instructor since the early years (or year) of ALSO in Australia. I can’t imagine ALSO Asia Pacific without her. Despite her full time work commitments she is totally committed to the principles of multidisciplinary maternity care education and is a reliable contributor to teaching the ALSO course.”
