Course Overview

 

The PIMS (Preparation in Maternity Safety) course is for those in the early stages of their obstetric or midwifery career, or those seeking a refresher.

 

Who Should Attend?

 

  • Medical and Midwifery Students
  • Newly Graduated Midwives
  • Interns
  • Junior House Officers or Resident Medical Officers (PGY1 and PGY2)
  • Doctors considering a career in general practice
  • RFDS nurses or paramedics
  • Nurses considering doing midwifery education in the future
  • Experienced doctors or midwives seeking to refresh their knowledge and skills in normal aspects of maternity care

 

The course covers the basic knowledge and skills required to provide quality maternity care.
Topics are presented as lectures, interactive case studies, and skill stations and include:

 

  • antenatal care, the birth space and normal birth, vaginal examination in pregnancy and labour
  • management of the 3 rd and 4 th stage of labour, perineal repair, and breastfeeding
  • neonatal resuscitation and management of postpartum haemorrhage
  • collaborative care of the clinically deteriorating woman and obstetric and medical complications of pregnancy

 

Learning how to work in a multidisciplinary team is a critical focus of the course.

 

PIMS (Preparation in Maternity Safety) is accredited with RANZCOG. Those eligible can claim points for attendance as follows:

CPD Online Program (Clinical Expertise Domain)

Full attendance – 14.5PD points

 

PIMS Course Fees:

 

Course fee $1760.00 AU per participant. This includes:

  • Two days of training
  • The PIMS online study notes
  • Lunch on both days, morning and afternoon tea

 

NOTE: Hard copies of the manual are available for an additional fee of $100, this includes postage and handling in Australia.
